amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research Announces Funding Opportunity for Latin American Grassroots Organizations

With support from the Elton John AIDS Foundation, amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research has announced new funding for innovative projects that address HIV/AIDS among gay men, other men who have sex with men (MSM), and transgender individuals in Latin America.

Grassroots nonprofit organizations led by or closely linked to MSM/LGBT communities in low- and middle-income countries in Latin America are encouraged to submit relevant proposals.

Each eligible organization may apply for an award of up to $20,000 to support project-related costs for up to twelve months. Proposals for general operating support will not be considered. Approximately $200,000 in total funding is available through this round of awards; amfAR anticipates funding from six to eight proposals.

Applicants must be nonprofit organizations (e.g., NGOs, CBOs, or other charitable organizations) that are the equivalent of U.S. tax-exempt nonprofit organizations.

Visit the amfAR Web site for complete program guidelines, a list of eligible countries, funding priorities, and application procedures.

At the beginning of the post you mention the Foundation Center as the source of the information about this grant opportunity. Is there a way to sign up for email alerts about grant opportunities in certain topics, i.e. HIV and AIDS, or do you have to use the Foundation Center's search database? Thanks!

Absolutely! If you haven't, go to their site (the link to The Foundation Center is on the left hand side of our blog in the upper middle of the web page), and at the top of their website, under "Find Funders" go to "Requests For Proposals" and a prompt on that web page will allow you to sign up. Best, Arlene

Arlene: We missed the targeted deadline for the AmFAR funding for the Latin American initiative. Was this just the first round? Do you anticipate more funding in the future. This is a perfect fit for our NGO. Thanks

I encourage you to go to AmFAR's website, locate their current giving guidelines (if you don't know what these are search for the phrase in the upper left hand Search prompt above) and look over their current and future grant initiatives. After, phone them and tell them exactly what you wrote, here, (given what their giving guidelines indicate) just to make contact and begin a relationship between your organization and theirs'.

Good luck! Arlene
